"GRLL'-W It is pur opinion that there ought to be a real friendly re lation between the visitors at Pinehurst and Southern Pines, They are all from the bleak and chilly North, and down South they ought to do as the warm, hearted, genial Southerners do know every body in a hundred miles; and to assist in a friendly co-operation, the Frfe Press has.in diiced the Clay Pigeon Club to move its grounds from the hill, east of the depot, to a point ;n the Pinehurst trolley line, fet of the Sea board Air Line, whre it will be very convenient for the Pinehurst people. -We have also ar ranged to have half of the sports there during the fes tive days of February 2 Ui and 22nd, and thecitizensand visitors of Pinehurst f re ear nestly invited and urged to be our guests' and enjoy the fuit with us. No. name, no claim for notice. We would like to shake hands with the good-hearted fellow. He, or it may be a she; who knows anyway? Our heartfelt thanks for the contribution; and we are going to invest it in another trap which our gun club has needed so much, and it, the trap, shall be known as trap "V, in memory of our good unknown friend, who had given the editor and the whole-soul "boys" who have stood by him in the clay-pigeon shoot ing contests with so much credit; but he or she, has -really given us more credit than' we .deserve, for we are amusing ourselves as well as others; we are enjoying the sport as much as the visitors. It is true it has cost us 25c a piece for "shot and shell" each dav. but we erot fun enough out of it to pay for that, and whats the use for friend "V to give us so much, credit when we are euiovine: the pleasure as much as yoirself. But we will tell you one thing, your letter and 5-doi-lar bill will make us feel like doing more in the future than we have done in the past. Our people are not slow; fhey are willing 10 do their duty. The gen tleman in charge of the land interest at Southern Pines is a hustler and don't you forget it, but he is a busy man. and can't give Southern Pines all his attention, but his representa tives here are ready to put their hands to the plow at any time. The hotel men, the boarding house-people, the business.; men-; of ;Jhe . town and the homeowners have, never said no to a, single request, and Mr, V, instead of in the . Fhrf. Press for do- f n V stf fiitidrfattd flit people &H56iiig so little,, you will have tr apologize to the people, and condemn tne jree 'Press, for if we had only thought what to do and suggested something, our people would have come forward and backed us up in a substantial wa)', There is nothing slow about the citi zens and business people of Southern Pines, and if you will stay here dur ing the season you will see things so lively that you will have to just hold your "bref" until the procession passes by; or the people will make you laugh until your sides get sore, for they have already been planning for more amusing and fun-making, than was ever crowded into one win ter season. So say we all. THE LITERARY CLUB. The meeting- at the club was un usually interesting lst Tuesday evening. After a piano solo by Miss Richards, Miss Breneman re cited "Life's Less. -n", by James W. Riley Mr. Oslin opened the de bate, Kesolvsd: That there is more power in the press than in the pul pit. Tie was aided by Miss lUliel Rrnwn and Miss Fannie Hall and opposed by Miss Tupper, Mr. Miles and Prof. Schulz. The judges, Df. Redan, Miss Wilcox, and Mr. More house, decided in favor of the affirm ative. A serenade, "Sleep. Lady, Sleep," was rendered by a male quartet, followed by extemporane ous speeches upon subjects passd around on slips ot paper, inis was a new departure much enjoyed by all. Next week the Hr i'1' J.
